About Us

We have adopted the 'new' scoring rules, that is each succesful score gains a point, and the games are played to 21. Full details from the Badminton Association here, section 7 being the relevant one. Or check out this rather more user-friendly explanation here.

If there is a spare court and only 2 free players then they can play singles, but must be prepared to stop if others arrive.

We don't have a rota system for playing, so keep an eye on the number of people waiting, and sit out if you've played a few games in a row. Conversely, if you think it is your turn to play, stride purposefully towards an empty court, asking anyone if they want to join you. If you always wait to be asked, you may not get your fair share of games.

We are a social club, so mix around and don't just play the same people. Sort out whether you and your partner are playing front-and-back, or sides; in mixed games, don't assume the woman wants to play at the net all the time.

Each game usually starts with a warm-up, though this may be very brief if the players are already warm.

We tend to congregate in the Free Press pub afterwards, please feel welcome to join us.
